Here comes the new year, and we are ready to roll into 2018 like gangbusters. This is a banner year for PMI Phoenix, celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the chapter, a “HUGE” milestone for both the Chapter and for PMI. Phoenix is one of the oldest chapters in existence, and was formed 40 years ago when some Project Managers working on a small project called the “Salt River Project” reached out to PMI and asked to form a chapter.
So we are starting our 40th year with a Grand Evening Chapter meeting on Thursday January 11, with PMI BOD Director Randy Black, both giving us accolades and speaking about the Talent Triangle. We will also be holding 2 PMP Exam Preparatory classes for PMBOK 5 in January for those that are trying to complete the exam prior to March.
Then in February, we have Dr. Harold Kerzner coming in February 20th, for a four hour lecture about the Future of Project Management, followed up with a social hour where you can meet Dr. Kerzner face to face. This class is limited in size, so sign up early. Also in February, we will have another PMP Exam Prep class on PMBOK 5, and a PM Fundamentals class that you should all have your boss attend.
Then we hit full stride in March, with a PMI Founding Father, James Snyder, as our Evening Chapter Meeting speaker on March 14th. As I noted last month, “This is a tremendous opportunity for our Chapter, to have someone of James’s stature here in Phoenix and share his thoughts on PMI and the Phoenix Chapter.” James is a great individual, who remains committed to PMI for forty nine years. Yes that is right, PMI will be holding it’s 50th anniversary in 2019.
There will numerous training opportunities and Social Networking opportunities in February, March, April and May, with May being special. We will have Dr. James Brown back for 2 days of Leadership training, and also our guest speaker at the May Evening Chapter Meeting on May 16th. James was here last year, and I assure you we had a great crowd at that meeting, and expect even more this year. And please plan to attend his leadership classes, the attendees rave about his presentations!
So as we kick off 2018 with a bang, it is great to have a full Board of Directors on board. Of course we can always use good volunteers, with many open positions. So please remember PMI Phoenix if you have some time to help us make this chapter better going forward. We cannot do this without the dedicated volunteers we have now, and hope to have in the future. I sincerely appreciate all the work that our volunteers perform. PMI Phoenix is on a roll, working diligently to increase our presence in the state of Arizona, and we look forward to a bright 2018 and beyond.
