Job Description


 The PMI Phoenix Chapter Professional DevelopmentTeam supports the directives and goals of the chapter by supporting and coordinating Project Management educational opportunities, Project Management Certification Exam Preparation Classes and Workshops for all of all types of PMI Certifications / Discipline areas.  The AVP Professional Development works with the VP of Professional Development to support Professional Development related departmental teams.  

Roles and Responsibilities: 


  • Collection and collation of annual budget entries; monthly determines and reports variances to budget and reports results to the VP-Professional Development as well as via Status Report Updates
  • Distribute and collect responses to team communications including but not limited to submissions from Vendors, emails from various sources that are delivered via automatic forwarding from VP and AVP chapter web addresses
  • In the absence of the VP attends or conducts conference calls as required
  • Ensures all Professional Development teams provide status reports monthly via the appropriate tool(s) required by the Chapter
  • Undertakes any other measures needed to facilitate the work of the team, its annual mission and its vision
  • Actively engages with other Chapter teams in order to meet goals of the department.  This includes but is not limited to Communications, External Relations and Program teams
  • Maintains an accurate, current Professional Development team master list; obtains and reviews updates from Directors and Managers
  • Proactively responds to inquiries and requests for assistance from team members
  • Actively participates in Project Management Week annually, including the scheduling of free or low cost PDU opportunities, partnership with the Operations and External Relations teams
  • Other position-related duties as assigned


  • Self-Starter -  Ability and desire to work and lead independently with minimal supervision, proven initiative skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrated successful Executive Support experience preferred
  • Previous or current direct report management experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 

Participation and Leadership Requirements:

  • Attend all Professional Development Team meetings  - one Professional Development Meeting per Quarter – Evening or Weekend Day
  • Attend each “All Volunteer Leader” team meetings as scheduled by the chapter
  • Participate in networking and PDM meetings throughout the year (not all but a minimum combination of 6 per year)


  •  Oversees the accurate maintenance of Professional Development Calendar entries, proactively handle discrepancies or late calendar entries
  • Once per month create a Bulletin entry involving department activities / updates
  • Completes a monthly status report for the team and the Chapter Board for the prior month no later than the Friday at the end of the first week of the new month.



Up to 45 PDUs in a 3-year cycle (PMP, PgMP);

Maximum of 20 PDUs in a 3-year cycle (PMI-SP, PMI-RMP, PMI-Agile)

(after 3 months service – 1 PDU per volunteer hour provided. Use Category E – Giving Back to the Profession)

Time Commitment

 4-6 hours per week
